Feeding Evaluations, Therapy, & Groups

  • At Sprout Feeding Therapy, we support children ages 6 months to 10 years with a wide range of feeding challenges, including:

    • Picky eating

    • Trouble transitioning to solids

    • Sensory aversions

    • Oral motor delays

    • Difficult mealtimes

    • ARFID

    • GI disorders and food allergies

    • Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, genetic conditions

    • Failure to thrive or feeding tube transitions

Many families come to us feeling overwhelmed. Kids might have a limited diet, avoid eating at restaurants or parties, gag frequently, struggle to gain weight, or have trouble eating by mouth. We help families move from stress and worry to confidence and progress.

  • Our evaluations are calm, supportive, and personalized. We take time to understand your child’s unique needs, preferences, and mealtime routines.

    A typical feeding evaluation includes:

    • Parent interview and intake paperwork

    • Review of detailed feeding questionnaires

    • Oral motor exam

    • Observation of your child eating 3 different textures

    • Sensory and behavioral observation

    • Review of a short, at-home mealtime video (to assess real-life feeding environment)

Afterward, you’ll receive a comprehensive report with personalized recommendations. If therapy is needed, we’ll guide you through your options, including individual therapy or parent training.

  • We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to feeding therapy. Every child’s feeding journey is different, so every session is tailored to meet their needs.

Our therapy blends three major evidence-based approaches — motor, sensory, and behavioral — into one cohesive plan. We prioritize trust, connection, and collaboration with caregivers every step of the way.

    Sessions often involve:

    • Exploring new foods in a no-pressure, playful way

    • Supporting oral motor skill development with exercises

    • Creating mealtime routines to support you at home

    • Modeling eating alongside the child

    • Involving kids in food prep to increase comfort and control

    • Weekly updates and strategies for home carryover

    • Parent participation and ongoing collaboration

We also offer group sessions and parent training to match your child’s goals and your family’s needs.

  • Feeding therapy can make everyday life easier for both kids and their families.

As we make progress during therapy, parents often see their child:

    • Eat a larger variety and volume of foods

    • Happier and calmer at mealtimes

    • Feeling less stressed about eating

    • Have improved confidence with food

    • Successfully participate in meals at restaurants, parties, and home

Whether your goal is transitioning off purees, trying new foods, or simply enjoying mealtimes again, we’re here to help your child grow and thrive.

Dani Edelstein, M.A. CCC-SLP, TSSLD

Hi, I’m Dani, a pediatric feeding therapist in New York City and the founder of Sprout Feeding Therapy. I’ve been specializing in feeding therapy for over five years and started Sprout because I believe kids deserve more than a one-size-fits-all approach. I combine multiple evidence-based methods— motor, sensory, and behavioral— to support the whole child while centering connection, joy, and family support.

I’m driven by seeing kids make progress and helping parents feel less overwhelmed. Therapy with me is always personalized. I build strong relationships with families, create a space where kids feel safe to explore food, and provide practical tips that help carry progress into everyday life. I want every child to feel proud of what they can do, and every parent to feel supported, understood, and part of the team.
